The Board of Directors of CBSBB is pleased and honored to award the Edgar Legaspi Family the 2015 Humanitarian Award. In 2013 Edgar and his children Edgar Jr, Camilla, Anders and Isabella founded The Gabriela Legaspi Foundation to continue their mother’s work to provide educational opportunities for the poor, particularly new immigrants, whose quality of life in New York was diminished. A Mexican immigrant herself, Gabriella saw a disconnect between successful immigrant professionals working on Wall Street and struggling immigrant workers without opportunities: both had come to New York for the sole purpose of working and providing for their families. For many years Gabriela worked to raise money to fund educational initiatives which would give poor immigrant families an opportunity to improve their quality of life. Gabriella’s work also put a spotlight on the all too frequent abuse of immigrant laborers. After Gabriella’s death in 2012 from breast cancer, her family and friends created the Foundation to continue this important work.
